Churros are a fried dough pastry. Sometimes served for breakfast to accompany a cup of hot chocolate or even as a snack but regardless of how you eat them, I guarantee that you will love them. They are made in different shapes and sizes, sometimes even made into mini cups to fill with ice cream. The possibilities are endless.

These right here are one of my favorite desserts and it helps that everyone in my home loves them as well. There are many variations to making these churros to satisfy anyones sweet tooth. Lets get started.

You will need:

  1. 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  2. 2 Cups of Water
  3. 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  4. 2 TBSP Sugar
  5. 4 oz of Butter
  6. 1 Cinnamon Sticks
  7. 1 Tsp Salt
  8. 2 Eggs
  9. Pastry bag with large star tip
  10. Oil for frying
  11. Ground Cinnamon(1\2 TBSP) and Sugar(1 Cup) for garnish



Sift the flour and set aside. Add the cinnamon stick to the water and let it boil for about 10 more minutes. *I always add about 2 TBSP of additional water because it evaporates when boiling. Once it boils remove the cinnamon stick and add the sugar, salt and vanilla. Stir until it dissolves completely. Now we will add the butter and let it dissolve as well.



Once the butter is dissolved we will turn off the heat and add the flour all at once and mix constantly, this will take a few minutes because you need to incorporate the flour completely, until it no longer sticks to your pan on the sides. This will be your sign that it’s ready. Let it cool down a bit before adding the eggs. We don’t want to add the eggs when it’s hot because it will start cooking the eggs and that’s what we don’t want.


Now that we have let it cool down a bit it’s time to add the eggs. We will need to beat the eggs before adding. Add about one eggs at a time and mix vigorously. add the other part of the eggs and keep mixing.


Now, it’s time to add this mix to our prepared pastry bag. To prepare the pastry bag all you do is cut about half an inch from the tip of the bag and measure the metal tip. Now lets fill the bag half way with the dough. An easy way to fill would be to get a long cup or glass and place the bag inside and fold out the sides from the bag. Might take some practice but you will get it. Make sure you have a knife or some kitchen scissors handy.



Time to heat enough oil for frying.


Once you are ready to add to the oil you will squeeze with the same pressure throughout the size that you desire.  Before cutting place the tip of your knife or scissors on the hot oil this step will help the metal not stick to the dough. Once you see that the color is changing to a nice and crispy brown it’s time to turn and fry on the other side. Once fried evenly we will set aside on some paper towels to observe the excess oil. We continue to do all this with all our dough.


Now we will mix the cup of sugar with the ground cinnamon. This mixture is to cover the churros.  For those that don’t want that much sugar on their churro they can opt out of adding it. The dough is somewhat sweet so they can be enjoyed plain as well.
